coffee is fine. not very comfortable. lots of flies. two stars because its the only coffee shop in town. edit - flies are gross... down to 1 star
They roast their own beans and actually do it well. Their espresso roast is the rare one that isn't burnt. The employees actually make a good cappuccino. This place is what most small coffee shops want to be.
Not as good as the original in Portsmouth, NH. It Still has good food and coffee.
Definitely a Durham staple. I love going here. The blended coffees are my favorite, and they make great pastries/cookies. Plus they roast their own coffee so my family always gets our coffee beans from here.
Great coffee, snacks and staff.
Almond croissants to die for. Good selection of decent coffee.
Excellent little coffee shop with roasted on site coffee beans. Excellent fresh made muffins that are still warm if you get there around 7am. Some students study here but it's not over run with the..
Very polite and friendly service. I ordered a medium latte and the taste was sooo good! Nothing like fresh coffee. There's parking right outside, it's free for 1 hr.
I go there for my coffee beans and their Guatemalan is the best.
Excellent local coffee, great crew.
Best coffee in Durham. Great homemade muffins too!
Service was warm coffee was not very warm.
Delicious and fresh
Average coffee shop not bad but nothing to wright home about.
Great coffee. Bring your own mug!
My husband and I stopped here for a cup of coffee after dropping it daughter off at college. It was a cozy little place and my coffee was very good.
Great calm atmosphere to caffinate and recharge
Best pastries in town.
It was here, more than 15 years ago I fell in love with coffee. The ambiance, the coffee and the service are still as fantastic as always. Enjoy!
A Durham and Portsmouth mainstay. Love them.
The coconut coffee here is amazing! I love the atmosphere, and the Cran Orange muffin is awesome! The gelato is perfect after a nice walk on a warm day
Expensive drinks for average taste. Food is better than the drinks which stinks for being a coffee shop.
Locally owned, really good coffee and muffins a good place to sit and enjoy Durham.
It was decent
I gave bng a 4star review last year because despite loving the coffee, the place had a terrible broken couch and a gross bathroom. No longer! Bathroom was renovated and looks awesome. Coffee is still amazing. New couch makes me want to move in. Great local place; part of the UNH experience.
Great atmosphere, good variety of drinks & snacks, and friendly staff.
Best place to curl up with your beverage of choice and people watch in Portsmouth.
Friendly staff and great coffee. Also has some seriously comfy seating in the back
I'm so happy that the Breaking New Grounds location in Durham, NH is still open! I was so sad when the location in downtown Portsmouth, NH closed. BNG has the best coffee in NH. I tried the bunny hop latte which was a coconut and chocolate latte and it was delicious!
College hangout with good coffee. Better wifi then the Portsmouth location ;)
Great community coffee shop. Cozy and comfortable, a lovely spot to meet up with friends old and new! Not to mention their drinks are quite yummy. 😊
Best cafe in Durham. So many good memories.
Very nice atmosphere and good selection of brews.
Favorite place to go for flavored coffee!
Did not think you could mess up coffee this bad...no joke tasted so off I thought it may have expired? Never getting coffee here again.
My favorite coffee shop in Durham -- I become an iced coffee addict in the summer, and Breaking New Grounds is a great place to get my coffee fix (don't worry -- they also have decaf iced coffee, so you can stay cool without bouncing off the walls).Locally owned, fair prices, great coffee, delicious bagels, vegan baked goods, friendly staff, name that involves a pun -- what more could you ask for? Be aware that you WILL run into someone you know there -- it's just that kind of place ❤️.
Great coffee, lots of daily flavors, easy in and out (post-covid)
Great coffee!! Have to put in the cream and sugar yourself though
Good place to study or hang out with people. The seating became a bit uncomfortable but nice atmosphere.
Everyone loves BNG but it's always a hit or miss with the baristas. Sometimes the customer service is great, sometimes they'll burn your bagel to a lump of coal and look at you like "deal with it, loser".
BNG is a staple of UNH. Going here is a must for anyone looking for a good coffee or Tea as they visit UNH
Staff were lovely and the coffee was great. They also sell aluminium reusable straws which as an environmentally conscious customer I was pleased to see.
So great to have a small local coffee shop with delicious coffee!!
Average coffee shop. Decent coffee. Nothing out of the ordinary
The barrista made a spectacular almond milk latte... florished with some latte art...which is definitely hard to do with almond milk. This place is not just another coffee shop... They're a cafe staffed with coffee professionals. Skip dunkins, go here if you can!
Great place! Fantastic drinks and a nice quite atmosphere.
BNG is always our favorite! Delicious drinks every time. We also used to get the coffee beans for birthdays or Christmas, but have gotten so spoiled by how good they are we won't even buy coffee anywhere else anymore!! ☕
Great local chain with great coffee roasted in house. Nice patio seating for summer and cozy indoor seating for winter. Also have nice selection of sweets.
Great flavored coffee without the flavor shot. Terrific raspberry scone.
Wonderful intimate authentic roasted beans If your looking for the real cup of coffee, this is the place!
